Your own server tools, without the subscriptions.
A self-hosting kit for one Ubuntu server: a control panel, encrypted file transfer, a passkey gate and the small tools around them. Source files you install yourself, nothing phoning home.
Payment is handled by Stripe on its own page; card details never reach our server. 14-day refund if it does not install as described. Licence and terms.
What is in the kit
How it is built
- Every service runs as its own unprivileged system user under a systemd sandbox (ProtectSystem=strict, no capabilities, syscall filter).
- One command adds a site: a DNS record, the certificate, the nginx config and a health check, previewed as a dry run first.
- Python standard library only. No Docker, no frameworks, no package manager to babysit. The one external dependency is
agefor the vault's encryption, from apt. - Privileged actions go over a unix socket to a helper with a fixed allow-list. There is no "run a command" verb anywhere.
- Passkeys (WebAuthn) for sign-in; password plus authenticator code only to enrol a device.
Owning it versus renting it
- Cost. Subscriptions bill every month for as long as you use them. The kit is one payment; what you spend after that is your own server's rent.
- Where the data lives. With hosted tools your files and logs sit on someone else's servers. Here they sit on yours, and only yours.
- Terms. A vendor can change its plans, limits or features whenever it likes. Nothing in the kit changes unless you change it.
- Reading the code. Hosted tools are a black box. The kit is small enough to read end to end, and you may change it for your own use.
- The honest downside. Updates, backups and security are your job. There is no one on call. If that is not a trade you want, a subscription is the better choice.
Who it is for
- A technical owner or freelancer who already rents a Linux server and wants their own tools instead of five monthly plans.
- Someone who wants to read every line of what runs on their box. The whole kit is small enough to do that in an evening.
Who it is not for
- Anyone who does not want to touch nginx, systemd or a shell. This is not managed hosting.
- Teams that need a vendor to be on call. Support is the guide plus email about the kit itself.
- Servers that are not Ubuntu 22.04 or close to it, unless you are happy adjusting paths yourself.
Questions
What exactly do I download?
One zip of source files and an installation guide (INSTALL.md). Python 3 standard library, nginx config references and systemd units. No binaries except the optional QR Beam Windows program's source.
How do I install it?
Two ways. The short way: run suite check, then suite install; it asks five questions and sets up users, config, services, sites and certificates in order, and resumes if a step fails. The long way: the guide, section by section. The installer is new in 0.2.0 and tested against fakes so far; keep the guide open the first time.
Are any secrets or data included?
No. There is no .env file, no database, no key of any kind in the kit. Every secret is one you create on your own server during install.
What does my server need?
Ubuntu 22.04, one nginx with Certbot TLS, Python 3.10, systemd, and comfort with a shell. The guide assumes the layout code in /opt, state in /var/lib, config in /etc. Other distributions will need path changes you make yourself.
Is there hosting or support included?
No hosting. Support is the guide and email for questions about the kit itself. We do not operate or secure your server for you.
Can I resell it or host it for others?
No. The licence is for your own servers, your own use. Modify it as much as you like for yourself.
How do updates arrive?
New versions are new downloads. Your download link stays valid and always serves the version it was bought for; we may add newer versions to it when we release them. No obligation to release updates.
What if it does not install?
Email us within 14 days with what you tried and we refund in full. See the terms page.
